Georgian Bedroom

Customer brief:

We have a 4 storey terraced georgian town-house in Bath. There are two top floor bedrooms but they are dark because the windows are small. The rooms are quite large but they feel cramped because the ceilings are so low. I want to create the feeling of space up there; make the rooms a joy instead of an endurance test, and make them more practical to use as guest rooms too.

Results:

We removed the ceilings and ceiling joists and fitted new plastered ceilings to the underside of the roof.  As well as giving much more height to the room (enough for a mezzanine gallery!) it allowed for new skylights fitted in the roof to shower the room with daylight. We built a range of fitted oak furniture, including an en-suite toilet/shower room and walk-in wardrobe.
